TdF Stage 15 ? Sprinters Rule

Covering 193 kilometers, or 120 miles of pedaling in today?s 15th stage, the Tour revisited 2 cities in the southwest of France that it?s come through many times in the past, Limoux at the start and Montpellier at the finish. Montpellier near the Mediterranean shore holds fond memories for the 2 Robbies on Team RadioShack [...]

Tribute to Wouter Weylandt (#108), 1984-2011

I’m sure many of you have heard the news regarding the tragic death of Wouter Weylandt of Leopard-Trek last week during the third stage of the Giro d?Italia, after he crashed during a mountain descent. The funeral was this week. This horribly sad event has really given me pause, but also a deeper understanding and [...]

Podium girl, or more?

What was I doing on the podium in Colorado? Was I a podium girl?  No.  I will call it a presenter.  I was able to work with the USA Pro Cycling Challenge for Exergy Development Group.  One of my jobs entailed presenting the leader’s jersey. Believe me, I prefer to be 0n the podium for winning bike races…but…this isn’t so bad, is it? My days included riding most of the courses with the Carmichael Training System group, and then quickly transitioning to the hospitality tent and then on to the...

After just a few minutes of pedaling into today?s Stage 13, Team RadioShack?s Andreas Klöden was forced to abandon his Tour effort this year succumbing to numerous injuries from several bad crashes. Bicycle Tour Network Conference

I recently attended the annual meeting of the Bicycle Tour Network (formally called the National Bike Tour Directors Association) in Denver, Colorado. More than 125 participants, representing multi-day bicycle tour events, came together to discuss the art of designing and hosting bicycle tours; from small 60-100 rider events like Adventure Cycling offers to the large events like RAGBRAI and Ride the Rockies. Charity rides, rides for women only, hammer-head rides, historical rides, and family rides were among those represented. We discussed the nuts and bolts of bicycle events, the impact of bicycle tourism on local economies, safety, rider demographics, route mapping, and a host of other topics.

I was very impressed with the level of sharing and cooperation between ride organizers. After all, we are competitors; we all are offering rides during the same part of the calendar year. However we all realize that the expanding bicycle tourism market far exceeds our ability to meet the demand; we cannot possibly provide enough tours, which is a great sign for the future of bicycle touring.
Are you searching for your next bike tour or looking to organize your own event? Check out Adventure Cycling tours, but also expand your search to see what the Bicycle Tour Network has to offer.

Girl you just can?t dance forever

I rode with Mim yesterday which was, although undeniably pleasant, not all that noteworthy.  It looked a lot like this, which it would, since recording it is what Bella does, and she’s very good at it.  It was familiar, without contempt, grey but mild, flat but fairly fast.  ’Nuff said really. Cycling time: 1:52:26 hrs [...]
