Walz Caps: Supporting the USBRS

What do Walz Caps and Adventure Cycling Association have in common, other than being fans of cyclists and cycling in general? Both are working to build the U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS)!

Walz Caps came on initially as a sponsor of our Build It. Bike It. Be A Part of It. campaign for the USBRS this past May. They even helped us create a special cycling cap for the U.S. Bicycle Route System, which you can pick up on their website. We are pretty excited about the cap because it is so much more than just a fashion accessory! If you buy a USBRS cycling cap, not only will you look cool and chic while riding, but you'll be helping to build a national network of bicycle routes: Walz Caps donates $5 to the USBRS for every cap sold.

Some of the Adventure Cycling staff recently bumped into Walz Caps' owner, Mike Gilstrap at Interbike, the bike industry trade show. And wouldn't you know, he was even wearing his USBRS cycling cap! You can watch Mike talking about Walz Caps and their commitment to help build the U.S. Bicycle Route System in this video, and visit their website to get your cap today.

Amgen Tour of California ? The Day After

The only thing bad about the Amgen Tour of California, with it’s beautiful scenery, world-class competition, excellent organization and stage selection, is that every year…it has to come to an end.  For a rabid cycling fan, the worst day of most big stage races is the day after it’s concluded.  You wish it could go [...]

Future of Cycling

What do you see when you hear the phrase, “future of cycling”.  Some of you may see a giggling toddler on a tricycle, and other’s may see a competitive junior cyclist on a frame that is slightly too big.  What do I see?  I see this. An 81 year old man.  Healthy.  Fit.  Not only riding his bike, but racing his bike!  Racing his bike against fellow competitors his age.  He is winning a National Championship road race that climbs over 4000 feet in 64k.  He is racing a criterium...

School?s alcohol policy forces major bike tour to change plans

An island community in Maine will miss out on the economic windfall created by a major bicycle tour because alcoholic beverages aren't allowed on school property, even for a non-school event. Velo Quebec plans to bring 1,400 to 2,000 recreational cyclists to Maine for a week-long, 600-mile bicycle tour of the state. The GrandTour Desjardins is the group's major event of the year. As you can see from the video, the cyclists like to ride hard then go about the business of some serious relaxation. Clips show wine bottles on tables...

French Economic Austerity and er? the impact on Cycling

I was furiously blogging away today – ‘Warming up on a turbo’  in the morning. The French austerity budget for my economics blog in the afternoon. What a life. Everything was going very well. Except my astute cycling readers may have wondered what the French national debt has to do with improving your cycling fitness. [...]
