Cycling Photos at the Crossroads

Waiting at lights. Good views   Nice and Bright Beware reversing lorries. More fun that an SUV any day.  I wish I went to school on something like that. The corner of Broad Street is a good place to take photos. Broad street is a no through road so traffic is relatively light and encourages [...]

Tour de France, Stage 2- How Do They Do That?

55,645 Kilometers Per Hour! That?s 34.6 miles an hour. That?s the AVERAGE speed of Garmin-Cervélo in the short 23-kilometer (14.3 mile) Team Time Trial contested on the streets of Les Essarts, France on Sunday. Team RadioShack, just 10 seconds back, were close to that speed as well. Given the perfect convergence of a bunch of [...]

Raise money for Cascade by riding your bike: CLIF-Bar Challenge

Here's something I wish I had acted on earlier. The Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation is the beneficiary of the CLIF Bar 2-mile Challenge in September. That means the foundation's operations can receive up to $10,000 from CLIF Bar by the end of the month. The exact amount depends on how many bicycle trips are logged at the CLIF Bar 2-mile Challenge website. For every trip, Cascade's education foundation receives $1. Unfortunately, the tally doesn't start until you sign up at the 2-mile Challenge website and start logging your rides.....

Ending Your Cycling Season on a High Note

September is arriving, school is recommencing, the weather is moderating, and Adventure Cycling's 2013 Early, Epic, and Educational tours schedule has been announced. The late summer and early fall season is a great time to ride. Less traffic, cooler temperature, and fewer tourists. Why not end your 2012 cycling season with an awesome cycling trip on one of our few remaining tours this year?

Inn-to-Inn
On our inn-to-inn self-contained trips, riders carry their gear, but there's a lot less of it because participants stay in hotels and eat in restaurants every night (no camping or group cooking gear needs to be carried).

Van-Supported
Our van-supported tours, where all personal and group gear is transported by a vehicle each day,  have 2 leaders and up to13 riders who camp most nights and share rotating cooking duties, akin to a self-contained trip but with the security and simplicity of van support. Tours are camping-based trips, with occasional indoor overnights.
Fully-Supported
Our fully-supported tours, where all personal and group gear is transported by a vehicle each day, have larger groups (typically between 40 and 90 riders) that camp together and enjoy catered meals. Fully-supported tours are camping-based trips, with occasional indoor overnights. Indoor lodging options are available at the participant's expense
No more cycling time in 2012? Check out our 2013 Early, Epic, and Educational tours schedule!

Nasty noises from a forgotten component

Roberta returned from her emergency visit to Roberts with gleaming silver cranks and running oh so sweetly. Unfortunately this happy state of affairs only lasted a few days. Her cranks still gleamed but suddenly, without warning, she started to sound like a sack of spanners! One minute I was riding happily along, the next she [...]

Popping Champagne

Things I learned about popping champagne. Just in case you are ever in that situation.  I have never actually popped a bottle of champagne on a podium until last weekend.  Sure they give you beer, jerseys, flowers, kisses, and antlers…but not always champagne.  It turns out “sprinters” have that opportunity much more than other types of riders.  Crits are known for champagne.  Time trials?  Let’s be honest…I am stoked for $20 and a T-shirt. I sabered the top off a champagne bottle once.  That is an excellent party trick.  Yet,...
