Klöden or Horner Could Win Tour of the Basque Country

Today?s 4th stage of the Vuelta Ciclista al País Vasco, Tour of the Basque Country in Spain, was predicted by many to be the decisive battle in the mountains that would reveal the one or two riders that could stomp down on the field and make this race their own. And while it was dramatic [...]

Podium girl, or more?

What was I doing on the podium in Colorado? Was I a podium girl?  No.  I will call it a presenter.  I was able to work with the USA Pro Cycling Challenge for Exergy Development Group.  One of my jobs entailed presenting the leader’s jersey. Believe me, I prefer to be 0n the podium for winning bike races…but…this isn’t so bad, is it? My days included riding most of the courses with the Carmichael Training System group, and then quickly transitioning to the hospitality tent and then on to the...

The Mirror Man: Looking Forward

When I arrived at work Monday morning I learned that Chuck Harris, the Mirror Man, had passed away. Without thinking about it I immediately raised my hand to touch the glasses-mounted rearview mirror that I wore. Chuck made that mirror for me many years ago, one of more than 88,000 that he made by hand over five decades.

Since 1972 I?ve worn one of Chuck?s mirrors on my glasses almost every day whether topping a pass in Peru, riding a quiet backroad in England, or making the short commute to the office here in Missoula, Montana. I?ll continue to use my Chuck Harris mirror in the years ahead.

Chuck won?t be up there looking down on us. No, he will be gazing up into the firmament looking for ways to improve things with his quirky innovations. But he?ll be keeping an eye on us with his mirror.

A story about Chuck, called The Mirror Man of Gambier, appeared in the April 2011 issue of Adventure Cyclist.

Facebook Memorial page for Chuck Harris has been set up in his honor.

Say a little prayer tonight

On Tuesday I spent another couple of hours with the Cinelli’s midwife, who was doubling up as health visitor and checking that my new baby was doing well.  Several tweaks and adjustments were made…  The extra spacers went into the brakehoods.  (I’d forgotten what those are called and just found this great picture to tell [...]
