Auction Update: Bicycle Prints, Quilts, and Headbadges

I am really excited about Adventure Cycling's first annual Summer Cycling Auction. There are some awesome bicycle tours up for bid, but for me those aren't the most tempting items. I'm psyched about  the completely unique cycling-related art pieces that artists and craftsmen across the country have donated. So I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight them here!

A custom headbadge for your bike:

A headbadge is traditionally a bicycle manufacturer's logo affixed to the head tube of a bicycle. But your head tube is a great spot to personalize your bike a bit.

If you are the winner of this custom headbadge, you will work with metalsmith, writer, and traveler Laura Crawford (of Path Less Pedaled fame) to fine-tune the design of your very own custom-made headbadge. She will then make it by hand for you, using traditional metalworking techniques. This item promises to make your ride the most stylish and unique bike on your street.

Re'cycled' art:

Missoula, MT artist Larry Diskin reuses and refurbishes locally-sourced materials in his artwork. For the Summer Cycling Auction, Larry donated a mixed-media painting, prominently incorporating a bicycle chainring into the composition.

A custom, cycling-themed quilt:

Andrea Funk started Too Cool T-shirt Quilts® in 1992 when her sister Karen arrived with a trash bag full of T-shirts acquired at triathlons and races. She asked Andrea to make her a quilt and through experimentation, Andrea created a soft, durable T-shirt quilt with different-sized blocks, which led to the unique design of Too Cool T-shirt quilts.

If you are the lucky bidder who wins a custom Too Cool T-shirt Quilt, Andrea will make you a quilt of your jerseys and race t-shirts, or you can select jerseys and shirts from Adventure Cycling?s Cyclosource catalog. You can even do a combination of the two! A Too Cool T-shirt Quilt uses up to 40 t-shirts and jerseys to reach a standard quilt size.

A Glicee bicycle print:

BicycleGifts.com is offering the top bidder their pick of one of over 200 poster designs to have printed as a 42"x60" high quality Glicee poster or repositionable fabric mural (valued at $249). These museum-quality prints will add class and (bicycle) culture to any room in your house.

June 18th through 22nd, Adventure Cycling Association will offer its members and the general public something new and exciting -- the opportunity to bid on fantastic tour spots, bike-specific art, and even a wine tasting -- in our first annual Summer Cycling Auction! Log on to Bidding for Good.com by June 18th to register as a bidder. Visit our Bidding for Good auction and keep an eye on the blog to see other items that we will be auctioning.

Funds raised will support the reroute of the eastern Montana and North Dakota sections of the Northern Tier and Lewis & Clark routes due to safety concerns, and will support the research and development of Bicycle Route 66!

Legal Planning Regulations for Cycle Provision

Following on a recent post about road design and space for cyclists, I came across this video where John Snow articulates the case for making cycle provision a legal requirement. John Snow makes a very strong, articulate and common sense case for enforcing road designers to incorporate cycle provision when planning roads. (this makes much [...]

Greenhow Hill and Nidderdale

With no races at the weekend, I was free to cycle around the Yorkshire Dales without any concern of being fresh for the weekend. This generally means finding some hilly routes in the most scenic parts of the country. It’s good to be able to cycle around with no specific targets – for no better [...]

Tour de Suisse ? Levi Leipheimer Laughs Last

The 9-Day, 1,245.9-kilometer (774+ mile) 75th edition of the Tour de Suisse is now in the record books. Traveling through some truly beautiful country, great old cities, serious alpine climbs, 3 countries, and numerous tricky switchbacks and tight turns, Team RadioShack?s members had not been setting many headlines.
