Taking part in charity bike rides

?Hey mate ? have you sponsored my charity bike ride?? Is a phrase many will get tired of saying and many more will get tired of hearing. However, each year millions of pounds are raised for good causes through this simple exchange. If you are thinking of raising money for charity through a sponsored bike [...]

Brajkovic Leaps into 3rd Place at Dauphiné

Team RadioShack?s Janez Brajkovic (SLO) put in an excellent performance in today?s Stage 3, Individual Time Trail of the Critérium du Dauphiné in Grenoble, France, putting himself in very good position (3rd in the overall General Classification so far) to contend this race, and defend the victory he took here last year. And, [...]

Free GPS trackers made available for organised bike rides

I thought this would be a good one to the attention of anyone organising a charity ride. UK based company Remote Asset Management are offering free GPS trackers to anyone organising a charity or endurance event. Using a GPS system would be a good addition to a ride so that you can report back on [...]

Summer Cycling Auction Starts Today!

I am sitting at my computer in the Adventure Cycling office, but I have not actually done anything since I came in at 7 this morning. Why might that be? Because I am glued to the Bidding for Good site, watching the first few hours of action on our Summer Cycling Auction.

It's fascinating to watch people battle it out for the top bid on some of these items, while others haven't gotten any hits at all yet. I'm even a little tempted to take advantage of the "Buy Now" feature on one of these tour slots. Now, I know that the bidding won't really heat up until Friday, at the end of the auction, but in the meantime I am enjoying watching the drama unfold.

A. Alfred Taubman, the father of the modern shopping mall, said of commerce, ?God help us if we ever take the theater out of the auction business or anything else. It would be an awfully boring world.? In a minimal way, while watching these actions play out on cyberspace, I agree with him.

So I salute you, bidders of Adventure Cycling's Summer Cycling auction, for lending some theater to my work week!

Now get out there and enter the scrum!

June 18th through 22nd, Adventure Cycling Association is offering its members and the general public something new and exciting -- the opportunity to bid on fantastic tour spots, bike-specific art, and even a wine tasting -- in our first annual Summer Cycling Auction! Log on to Bidding for Good.com to register as a bidder and visit our auction to start bidding.

Funds raised will support the reroute of the eastern Montana and North Dakota sections of the Northern Tier and Lewis & Clark routes due to safety concerns, and will support the research and development of Bicycle Route 66!

George Hincapie sets Tour de France record; other US cyclists at Le Tour

Yes, the 2012 Tour de France is a melting pot of bicyclists of all nationalities. In fact, only two teams are made up of cyclists of one nationality — Euskaltel-Euskadi (Spain) and Saur-Sojasun (France).

Even so, I’ve always liked to look through the roster of nearly 200 cyclists and see who is competing from the …
