Xiao Sa ? the small dog adopted on China bicycle tour

The amazing journey of Xiao Sa is no shaggy dog story. The small stray dog latched onto a group of touring bicyclists in central China and followed them all the way to Tibet, a distance of some 1,000 miles. The little fella ran all day with the bicyclists after they fed him. They named him Xiao Sa, and now he's famous...

Congratulations To Our USBRS Winners!

Throughout this fundraiser for the U.S. Bicycle Route System we have been offering a number of raffle opportunities to our donors. For the last two weeks we have been saving them up, building suspense. Dun. Dun. dun. But now comes the big announcement!

And the winners are...

For the Planet Bike bike-safe gift pack:
Lisa Koch, Dodson Dietrich, and Louise McGrody.

The winner of the Adventure Cycling Gift Pack, round of applause, is Eric Eltinge!

And last but definitely not least, the winner of a beautiful, Brooks B17 touring saddle is Ted Denning.

Congratulations to all of you for winning these fabulous prizes!

Didn't win? Worry not! Right now we are offering one of our most exciting prize packages yet! If you  donate by Saturday May 19th at 11:59pm EST, you will be helping build the U.S. Bicycle Route System and contributing to meet a $1,000 fundraising challenge offered by Ortlieb. If your donation is $25 or more, your name will be entered in the drawing for a set of Ortlieb 30-Years-Edition Back-Roller Classic limited-edition panniers!

These panniers are really cool. (I myself will be donating again to try to win these babies.) Ortlieb is a new sponsor to the U.S. Bicycle Route System fundraiser. Why does Ortlieb support the U.S. Bicycle Route System? This is what the Ortlieb Team told us:

"Being a European-based brand, Ortlieb has always been about moving people safely and more comfortably on their bikes. We brought Ortlieb to the US in 1998 with the hope that by making great waterproof gear available, Americans would spend more time on their bikes. More travel time, more recreational time, and more commuter time. Parallel to these goals, we have also continually supported the advancement of safe places to ride bicycles both locally and nationally. Let?s face it, without safe and well developed routes, great gear is useless. Ortlieb bicycle bags have been crisscrossing the US for decades. We love to hear from our fans and see the photos and videos as they share their experiences with us. The USBRS is a great initiative that will only make cycling in the US a better experience for all , and allow more options to see this great country while pedaling along on two wheels. More riders, more places, all weather. Ortlieb."

Thanks to everyone on the Ortlieb team for all of their funding and support in this project to build a national network of bicycle routes!

What's Missing from Your Touring Gear?

It's nearly June, and I know everyone out there is gearing up for a summer of cycling -- day trips, overnights, long weekends, and, of course, cross-country tours. What's missing from your pile of gear? Let's see, you've got your panniers, lights, water bottles -- maybe you won a Osprey Verve hydration pack earlier this month from Adventure Cycling -- bike shorts, U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS) jersey (maybe a USBRS cycling cap too?)...what's missing?

Your BOB Trailer, silly!

And we have a fun way for you to get one and make the world a better place for cycling at the very same time.

All you need to do is create a short video clip telling the world why the creation of a U.S. Bicycle Route System is important to you. It's quicker and easier than you think. Want proof of how easy? This video took me 3 minutes to shoot.

Step 1
: Grab a tripod, table top, or a close friend to hold the camera (Or use your phone camera and film yourself.)

Step 2: Stand a deliver! Stand in front of the camera and deliver your message about why you support the USBRS. We even have a sample script (PDF) that you can use as a jumping off point. (It also helps to press the record button on your camera.)
Step 3: Upload your video to YouTube.
Step 4: Email the link to wbateman@adventurecycling.org. Our media director, Winona, will add it to the Adventure Cycling YouTube playlist.
Step 5: Share your video link with all your friends and get them to watch and share it.
Step 6: Win a Yak Plus BOB Trailer! (Okay, this only applies if you get the most views on your video compared with all the other campaign videos. So, make sure you share it with everyone!)

Take 5 minutes right now to make your USBRS video and win this exciting BOB Trailer prize!

Other prize winners recently?

The Planet Bike bike-safe gift packs go to Sheri Hanna, Raymond Foss, and David Cousins! Deborah Douglas won the limited edition Ortlieb panniers.

More ways to win!

For another chance to win, donate before 11:59pm EST tomorrow (Thursday, May 24th) and be entered in the raffle to win a SERFAS Bike Transport case (pictured above) from Bike Flights to help you with all your bike-shipping needs. This case is awesome -- totally squish and toss proof, ready to survive airline baggage loading process.

And add this to your gear list: a beautiful, limited edition USBRS cycling cap, designed specially by Walz Caps for the campaign. To get one, just donate $100 or more. But move fast because supplies are limited.

Congratulations to all of our winners and thanks for supporting the U.S. Bicycle Route System!
