Missing Cyclist: Authorities Seek Public's Help

A cyclist on Adventure Cycling Association?s Death Valley Loop (I) van-supported bicycle tour is missing.

San Francisco resident George Kohler, 67, was last seen about 8 p.m. March 12 when he walked away from camp. That evening the tour group had stopped for the night at the Mesquite Springs campground at the northern end of Death Valley National Park, not far from Scotty's Castle, about 180 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Mr. Kohler was reported missing the following morning.

From the moment Adventure Cycling staff were aware of the situation, we have been working closely with the authorities. The Inyo County (California) sheriff's office is leading the investigation.

Seven local, state and federal agencies joined the search for Mr. Kohler, which has included rescue dogs on the ground and air support from Nellis Air Force Base, China Lake Naval Weapons Base, and California Highway Patrol.

Authorities are now seeking the public?s assistance in the search for Mr. Kohler. The Inyo County sheriff's office is asking anyone who was on the road to Scotty's Castle and may have seen Kohler or given him a ride to call Corporal Waterbury at 760-878-0323.

Kohler is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, navy blue T-shirt, and black pants.

Senate passes transportation bill with funding for local bicycle projects

Those of you who responded to the call from bicycle advocates to contact your US senators to support federal funding for bicycle programs should be pleased to know your efforts have paid off.
