There is a reason why I do this sport.

There is a reason why I do this sport.  There are moments and days that I question that, yet then there is that moment of clarity.  I am reunited with teammates, with friends, with passion. Today was a beginning at the Merco Cycling Classic.  But on the asphalt was not where I kindled my love. [...]

Night Riders: Return of the Wobbly Rob

This week's Bike Overnight is by Blevin Davis, who says this about himself: "After 15 years off of a bike, I found my inner kid and started riding again. Long dirt and gravel off-road rides are where my heart is, but I'm also open to a road trip. The idea of a Bike Overnight fits into my hetic schedule well, and I can see myself doing more of these in the future."

Of his most recent Bike Overnight, tackled early in 2012, Blevin writes, "Last year, my buddy Rob Lutz decided on the spur of the moment to do a Bike Overnight at Fort Pickens in Florida's Gulf Islands National Seashore. He had a blast and wanted to do it again this year. So, for the second annual Wobbly Rob in January, I decided to join him.

"We met up at Rob's house -- both of us running late, of course. We finally got packed up and on the road at 6:30 p.m. Since the sun sets early at this time of the year and we knew we would be riding in the dark, we brought extra headlights and rear lights for the ride. Our route also took this into account and kept us off the busy roads."

And into the dark they went, "only our headlights to illuminate the road. It was great! No traffic, stars twinkling overhead, the surf breaking on the beach. You couldn't ask for a better night ride."

Be sure to check out Blevin's overnight at BikeOvernights.org, where there's a ton more to read and enjoy, including the Photo of the Week. Our recent weekly selection, published March 16 and featured below, comes courtesy of Paul Smith from his post Rock and Pillar Range, New Zealand.
