That?s a Wrap. Best. Team. Camp.

And that?s a wrap. Team Camp is complete. Although it was a chaotic week of hard riding, challenging drills, and extensive learning, it was a resounding success.  The best team camp ever. Period. My Highlights of Team Exergy TWENTY12 Team Camp: Palm Springs. Palm Desert. Palm whatever. I love this place, and I think I [...]

Recalls: Fuji's Saratoga cruiser bicycles; Shimano's PRO Atherton handlebar stems

Fuji is recalling 10,500 women's Saratoga bicycles after receiving reports that the downtube can break, causing falls and injuries.

The company and US Consumer Product Safety Commission urges owners to stop riding the cruiser-style bicycles and return them to Fuji dealers for a replacement frame.

The company, through Philadelphia-based importer Advanced Sports, says at least 12 bike frames have broken. The failures caused two injuries, including one head injury that required 20 stitches to close ....

Rast Within Inches of Podium at Paris-Roubaix

Beautiful blue skies, unseasonably warm shirt-sleeve temperatures, knowledge crowds thickly lining the roads, hard to see how it could get much better for the 109th running of the 258-kilometer (160 mile) Hell of the North. It?s been named that mostly because of the 27 cobbled sectors (51.5 kms) that the riders bounce over on [...]

Highway Celebration!

Sometimes I look back over my trip photos and wonder, "Did I take that?"

The above image fits in that category. It's India. It's in my trip folder. Then it dawns on me that even though I was on a solo trip, I didn't take the photo ... because I'm IN it. That's my ratty, travel-worn light blue cap and my smelly polypro shirt.

Then the memories come flooding back. Cold downhill from the mountains of Himachal Pradesh. I coast around a corner and the highway is blocked. Not by a mud slide or a construction crew, but a wedding party.

There's not much vehicular traffic on this road to begin with, and the road is the only pavement available, so it's the perfect place to set up the band and to dance.

I'm immediately surrounded by wedding guests who thrust beverages in my hand. I've got my camera out and begin to take a photo, when one of the groomsmen insists that I dance and someone else takes my camera. For a brief paranoid moment, I wonder if I'll ever see it again.

Much dancing and drinking follows.

I wander back to my bicycle an hour later and find my camera safely tucked away in my front handlebar bag.

It is not until I return home a month later that I discover the photos taken by someone in the wedding party.

Most of the images are blurry, but all serve as delightful reminders that while traveling ... you never know what's around the next bend.

TdF Halfway Point ? Havoc, Mayhem, Carnage

When it?s over, it will be very hard for anyone to discuss this 98th edition of the Tour de France, without mentioning the numerous, high profile, and wild crashes that have marred the first half of this year?s contest. Not only has there been an extremely high number of riders hitting the deck, but [...]

With the New Year, our 2011 Share the Joy program closed out. This program encourages members to share Adventure Cycling Association with their friends and cycling buddies, and also awards fabulous prizes throughout the year. Here is a recap of the 2011 winners and their prizes:
In addition to these monthly winners, we draw two big winners at the close of the year for a new bike, and a gear shopping spree with our Cyclosource store, respectively.

This year's bike winners were Richard Levy and Sarah Westendorf, 5 year members from Steamboat Springs, CO.  They have a family membership and so got to duke it out over who would get the new Novara Verita, donated by REI.

Our gift certificate winners also have a family membership. Ivan Napel & Aiko Hanyu, 11 year members from Houston, TX, won the $500 to spend in the Cyclosource store. This prize is awarded to the person who attracts the most new members to Adventure Cycling. Thank you for sharing the inspiration with others!

Congratulations to all of our winners!

If you want to get in on the action in 2012, visit the contest page to learn about all of the ways you can enter to win. This year's prizes include an Ortlieb travel set, a Burley Travoy, an Old Man Mountain Sherpa rear rack and more. The grand prize is a Rapid 1 bicycle from Giant.

Kloden Leads the GC after Stage 2 in Vuelta al País Vasco 2011

Stage 2 and another day in the mountains. The good news? Well at least the weather?s good! With 45 kms to ride the peloton was following a breakaway group, descending a sweeping, wide and sun-flooded road from Berastegi. The boys of Garmin-Cervelo had the front and were enjoying the pace setting. The breakaway, including Moinard (BMC) [...]
