TdF Stage 4 ? Shoot Out at Mur-de-Bretagne

Many thought that today?s 173-km (107.5-mile) 4th Stage going from Lorient to the short but steep ramp up the Mur-de-Bretagne had Philippe Gilbert?s name written all over it. This is exactly the type of course that the current dominant Belgium national champion has built his reputation on. And given his latest form, winning [...]

Cycling Weekly Interview

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed by Cycling Weekly. This is a copy of the interview. If you click on image you will get a bigger version. It was interesting being interviewed. It’s not all exactly my words, but the spirit of interview was good. Reproduced permission: Cycling Weekly I am a vegetarian or [...]

Lisa?s Greenfield :: Hawaii Ironman Report

Lisa’s Kona race report in her own words… “This is more than just a race report to cover my Kona experience. With regard to the actual physical challenge the swim was hard as I was in a large pack and we were all swimming at the same pace so there was lots of jostling around in the choppy [...]

Andreas Klöden Finishes 2nd at Paris-Nice 2011

Team RadioShack’s Andreas Klöden added to his long and impressive list of palmaires today, finishing in 2nd place in the overall general classification of the 8 days of the storied Paris-Nice race. On a cold and rainy day, on some very slick roads in the south of France, the experienced 35-year old finished the [...]

A Wild Day at Adventure Cycling

Life at Adventure Cycling is usually pretty wild. But November 17 has been one of my most eventful days here. To wit:
  • We started major construction/destruction of our courtyard and building as we expand the west wing of our headquarters (more on this soon, including in the December/January Adventure Cyclist). Greg Siple was nearly scalded by sparks as he photographed the action.
  • Our staff is smooshed into the remainder of our old church building along with two auditors who are reviewing our 2011 financials, from a very successful year.

  • Adding even more bodies were our Membership and Marketing Assistant Amy Corbin and her month-old baby, Elliott, on their first day back in the office!
  • Our tour sign-ups zoomed past 300, with six sold-out tours, a faster clip than last year and our tours catalog just went to the printer (look for it in the next couple of weeks -- it is gorgeous).
  • We just got the new Technical Advisory on rumble strips from the Federal Highway Administration -- after much work, it looks better but we're reviewing it tomorrow with our national partners and will report about it shortly.
  • Finally, National Public Radio's popular news program, Here and Now, ran an interview with yours truly today. You can hear it here and see their web page on bike touring.
What a day!

TdF Stage 13 ? The Mighty Col d?Aubisque

Today?s 13th stage, a short mountain course starting in Pau, climbing over the mighty 1,709 meter Col d?Aubisque and finishing in Lourdes, France, saw many of the general classification contenders taking a bit of a break over the 152.5-kilometer, or 95 mile trek. After such a grueling first 2 weeks it was well deserved, [...]

Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Stage 1, Zumarraga to Zumarraga

The last few kilometres were all that I managed to see of today?s stage 1 of the Pais Vasco and coverage was intermittent even then as the cameras cut back to the finish line rather than following all the action. But when the focus was on the riders what a stage this was. Let?s be clear. Chris [...]
