Cyclists compete for bragging rights on Mount Diablo

There's an easy (well, maybe not so easy) way to decide who is the best climber among San Francisco Bay Area bicyclists -- take the Mount Diablo Challenge.

More than 600 cyclists completed the 30th anniversary of the event on Sunday, some in all seriousness and others for the pure joy of climbing 3,249 feet in 11.2 miles.

The fastest cyclist to the top of the peak that dominates the Bay Area skyline in  Danville was Nathaniel English ...

Still waiting for Ken Burns documentary about the bicycle

Sipping my favorite beverage and watching the latest Ken Burns documentary on PBS -- "Prohibition" -- I couldn't help thinking about what a compelling piece he could create about the bicycle.

Having seen many of his previous documentaries, such as "The Civil War," "Baseball," "Lewis & Clark," "The National Parks" and "Jazz," it seems that many of the same themes he examined in those works would be available with the bicycle.

For starters, bicycling erupted into a craze in the U.S. almost as soon as the first velocipedes began arriving on our shores ....

This post was inspired by a fellow cyclist that had his bike in a standard shed not locked to a thing not even the garden rack, ?Stolen? £2000.00 worth of bike gone, by spending less than £50.00 to secure his bike a bit better he would of most properly still have his bike. Stage 11, Wednesday, 18 May, Machado Finds No Level Terrain The profile for the route, covering 144 Kilometers (89 miles) on the east coast of Italy, looked like the cutting teeth of an abused crosscut saw and probably felt like it for the racers. Cycling Infrastructure of the future

Author: Ian Monoghan If you are talking about sustainable transport you have to talk about bicycles ? the most sustainable form of transport we have. I'm all for investing millions of tax-payers money into carbonless fuel and alternative energy forces, but we have a mode of transport, already proven, that is 100% sustainable and it is in dire need of government investment in Cycling. Think about how we travel ? most of us, whether we are train users, drivers or bus users, use major arterial routes to get to train stations, under ground stations and bus terminals. But in order to get to these services we drive ? there are millions of cars across the UK that spend all day parked in a train or bus station or indeed on the side of the road while the owner uses these services to commute to work.
