Original and the Brest

On August 21 Paul Howard will be taking part in one of the oldest, and toughest, cycling events out there: Paris-Brest-Paris. Before he attempts to ride 1200km in less than 90 hours he looks back at the history of this brilliantly crazy event. There are probably many sensible responses to the question ?how do you [...]

Cycle Safely and Win a Prize

Youngster in Oxford are to be rewarded for cycling with a helmet on – they will receive a free goody bag from the local police. (Oxford Mail) It is hoped this will encourage responsible cycling from an early age. But, I wonder what will a teenager will get if he’s wearing a hoodie under his cycle helmet? Of course, it’s an excellent idea, but perhaps we should extend the scheme and give goody bags to motorists who drive safely. Anyone who actually sticks to the 20mph speed limit could be either given a packet of Werther’s Original or given some minus points on their driving license to offset future speeding tickets. Or perhaps we should start giving prizes for best dressed cyclists. i.e. the cyclist with most square inches of high viz clothing. Or maybe we could reward youngsters who aren’t clinically obese with a voucher for a free Big Mac and fries from their local McDonalds (as long as they didn’t loot it on the previous evening) Related Reasons to wear a cycle helmet - I should say, don’t pay any attention to my sarcasm.
