A Great Time For Life Membership
When you join Adventure Cycling Association as a Life Member you gain a lifetime of benefits: a never-ending subscription to Adventure Cyclist magazine, discounts on our route maps, tax benefits, a special embroidered life member jacket, and much more.If you have been considering this investment in bicycle travel, now is the time to take the plunge. Right now an Individual Life Membership is $1000 and a Joint Life Membership is $1500. These rates will be increasing after January 31.Your life membership will provide important ongoing support to Adventure Cycling and our mission to inspire and empower people to travel by bicycle, and help us build a strong foundation for the future. Life member funds helped us purchase and renovate our headquarters building, saving the organization thousands of dollars in interest payments. We then put that savings toward more route creation, reaching out to current and future cyclists, and building better conditions for all bicyclists.
"My relationship with Adventure Cycling began back in the 70s, I loved reading the life member profiles in the magazine," said life member Donna Sakson, of Seattle, Washington. "But what sealed the deal for me is that life membership provides long-term support for the organization. In my opinion, this is a very important time to be a life member ? to help maintain the organization's long-term strength."Our life members are one of the special groups that provide important support to bicycling in
America. Each year a dedicated group of cyclists make this special commitment ? maybe this is
your year. Please consider Life Membership (or Joint Life Membership) today, before rates increase. Learn

Written by: RHODRI CLARK OFFICIAL attempts to get more people cycling look set to fail - partly because women are too concerned about their safety or their image. Men and children appear to have responded to the message that cycling to work or school is good for their health and the environment. But new figures show a 29% drop in women cycling to work, although statisticians warn those figures should be treated with caution - because the numbers are so tiny. Just 0.5% of the female workers said the bicycle was their main transport to and from work. The reduction in female cyclists cancels out a 16% increase in men cycling to work. Overall, 1.4% of commuters normally cycled to work and the Government's target of tripling the number of people cycling to work by 2013 looks unachievable.
